this year well know indie/emo acts got back together and i was lucky to catch them an i can truly say it was life changing show and also one of the best of the year.
the band im talking about is the get up kids from Kansas city Missouri the band was major players in the 90's emo scene touring with everyone from green day to weezer and many more.
The band released four full length albums the one will be focusing on their album Something to Write Home About. the band released two singles from the album the first being ten minutes which was released as part of the sub pop singles club the second action & action was released in Europe by epitaph. the band toured for the album for the next three years until they went into the studio to record their next album on a
wire during the wait for the next album the band released Eudora which was a b sides collection.
the next album on a wire wasn't critically acclaimed vagrant released an animated music video for the single overdue which was received poorly vagrant decided not to promote the album heavily. the band did a tour with super chunk in 02 to support the album. the album got mild praise for mainstream publications such as rolling stone and such many smaller publications felt like band abandoned its emo roots. The band went back into the studio to record their next album Guilt Show which was their last the band also went on their last tour with dashboard confessional
tenses began to rise during the tour with dashboard by the end of the tour the band decided to put the band to rest quietly. the band went on unofficial hiatus the band briefly reunited that next January for a ten year anniversary show the band recorded the show and released it the following may as live at the granada theater. the band officially announced in 05 that they were breaking up the band did a final farewell tour with their last show taking place at a sold out hometown show
in 2008 reports began off a reunion for the tenth anniversary of something to write home as well as a cd reissue. the official reunion show was announced by the Kansas city star the show took place on November 18th 2008 the band announced the cd reissue as well as a 2009 national tour the reissue also contained a dvd of the bands live performance of the whole album as well as archival footage
when they announced the reunion tour i wasent expecting a slc date but low and behold they came after months and months before coming i went on a steady diet of something to write home about their show was amazing i got a set list an they all autographed my cd it was well worth the 30 dollar ticket. During the show the band played some new stuff and it is being reported that in 2010 the band will be releasing a new ep and full length hopefully that means another tour and hopefully another slc show
the cutest song ever
can you sleep as the sound hits your ears?
one at a time
an unspoken balance here
unabridged for so many years
that I should stare at
receivers
to receive her
isn't fair
don't worry I'll catch you
don't worry I'll catch you
don't ever worry
your arms in mine
any time
wouldn't trade anything
you're still my everything
to my suprise
before my eyes
you arrive
don't worry I'll catch you
don't worry I'll catch you
don't ever worry
still breaking old habits,
habits
you pulled the wool over me
and I can see everything
everything
remembering
Jinx removing
don't worry I'll catch you
don't wory I'll catch you
don't ever worry
no need for reminding
you're still all that matters to me.
