10. Minor Threat - Complete Discography
I know, I know. This is WAY too low on the list. I'm sorry! Its a great great album but I just think there's 9 better ones. Ian Mackaye is my personal hero, and his lyrics on this album are passionate, angry, and awesome. Best songs are "In My Eyes" and "I Dont Wanna Hear It." I love all of it, and as a straight edge kid, this has to be SOMEWHERE In my top 10 even if hardcore isnt my true passion.
9. For Science - Tomorrows Just Another Day
This album is a catchy, fun, slightly depressing pop-punk album from a great band from New Jersey. I like to listen to it when I'm depressed because it kind of soothes it in a way. I'm really sad these guys broke up cause I would pay big money to see them. This album is super fantastic and I recommend it to everyone because of its catchiness. Recommended tracks - Even, Heavy Blues, and East of E.
8. The Mountain Goats - Sunset Tree
SURPRISE!! Something that isnt punk. This is a super awesome folk album that always makes me happy listening to it. His lyrics are simply amazing. (and are on every mountain goats release I've heard) This album has passion without being fast or aggressive and for me its sometimes hard to notice that kind of passion. I do with this album though and its really great. I recommend this album to absolutely anyone. Its super listener friendly. Recommended tracks are You Or Your Memory, This Year, and Lions Teeth.
7. Descendents - Milo Goes To College
Ok here is a pop-punk classic. SUCH a great album that you can easily listen to beginning to end without stopping once. Its so catchy, so fun, and so entertaining. The lyrics are usually pretty hilarious and/or relatable and its a great album for when you just want something easy to listen to. One of the forerunners of pop-punk. Thank you Descendents!
Recommended tracks are Marriage, Myage, and Suburban Home.
6. Teenage Bottlerocket - Total
Catchy love songs are pretty much the greatest thing to hit music since the guitar... and TBR does it great, especially in this album. I really wish I could write lyrics as catchy as Ray and I hope that they come to SLC very, really, extremely soon, and also to an all ages venue. I will explode with excitement. Anyway, this album is super catchy, and super listener friendly. Their Ramones influences show heavily. Recommended tracks are, Fall For Me, Radio, and Bloodbath At Burger King.
Top 5 OMG!!!
5. Defiance, Ohio - The Great Depression
So as I said in my previous article, Defiance, Ohio got me into the world of awesome punk rock. I listened to them nonstop for ages but have since grown out of the folk-punk world and more into other genres. Either way, Defiance, Ohio albums all rock and are all fun to listen to. This ones my favorite. Its really uplifting and the female vocals rule. It seems that pretty much everyone who listens to these guys ends up loving them sooner or later. Recommended tracks are Calling Old Friends, Letter Home, and Oh Susquehanna.
4. The Steinways - Gorilla Marketing
This album is super fun and super listener friendly and super easy to listen to. (Did I mention it was super?) The Steinways write probably the most relatable lyrics for a late teen/early 20 year old possible. Every song is catchy as hell and really fun to listen to. My only problem is that I wish Ace would have sung more. Grath usually sings and he is really great too so its not that big of a deal. Seriously, if you can find this album, get it. You wont be disappointed. Recommended tracks, Half-Baked Heartache, Good Grief, Manhattan Boots
3. Jawbreaker - Dear You
Ok. Heres the one. The one that every pop-punk fan with any feelings of depression listens to. Blake Schwarzenbach (the lead singer) writes the most cynical, depressing, amazing lyrics ever. Seriously, ever. This is their only major label release and its usually considered their best. When I'm depressed, feeling crappy about myself, or just want to listen to some awesome music, I go to Dear You. Oh and I need to mention that Blake is my man-crush. Recommended tracks, Chemistry, I love you so much its killing us both, and Accident Prone
2. Lemuria - Get Better
Let me preface this by saying I have a Lemuria tattoo on my leg and I am mighty proud of it. This album is so wonderfully amazing that I cant even explain it. Sheenas voice is beautiful on it and the lyrics make it even better. Alex's monotone deeper voice compliments Sheena's voice perfectly. There are some very cute songs on this and all other Lemuria releases. (and who doesnt love cute songs????) I really like Alex's drumming too. Its not cookie-cutter at all. Its really cool. One funny thing about Lemuria is that just about everyone I show them too, loves them. Theyre just so damn good. I expect Lemuria to get much bigger then they are now and they'll deserve it all. Recommended tracks, Pants, Dog, and Fingers
1. The Ergs! - Dorkrockcorkrod
Let me preface this by saying I have an Ergs! tattoo on my leg and I am might proud of it. Anyway, this is the album of all albums. Pop-punk at its finest. Every member is extremely talented at their respective instruments and Mike Yannich's lyrics are SO so great. Those sort of things arent really common in the world of punk. I've been listening to this album basically for 2 years straight. Its so great in every single way. Its basically a concept album where the whole album (but two songs) is about girls, and romantic situations. Its highly relatable and awesomely amazing. I suggest everyone buy it when they can because they wont be disappointed. Recommended tracks, A Very Pretty Song For A Very Special Young Lady Pt. 2, Pray For Rain, Rod Argent.
Anyway, thats my top ten albums for the moment. Thanks for reading!
Zach!!

There is a serious lack of Skramz in this top ten...
ReplyDeleteoh man I love The Mountain Goats!
ReplyDeleteI haven't gotten way into the Sunset Tree though, I tend to just rock Tallahassee or Heretic Pride.
